Magdalena: tall tower

strong against adversity

Despite chance and cruel circumstance

you persevered

as someone else’s wife

your brilliance obscured by another’s light

but

you persevered

your creativity undiminished in your pain

becoming an ally:

as someone acquainted with struggle

you stood in your

perfectly imperfectly broken body

as an ally for the ones

shunned

discarded

on the edges

as i stand in my

perfectly imperfectly broken body

teach me to be an ally too.
