I’ve kept a list in my head

the brutal prophecy

of all the ways I can fail

of all the ways I am not enough

of all the ways the universe is against me

Stop being a victim – he said

words like an overwhelming splash of freezing water

Bend the universe to your will – he said.

And so I am.
